Wakefield Co-operative Bank is the proud sponsor of the Market Kitchen Tent and Farm/Food Education program at the Wakefield Farmers Market (WFM) this season, which runs June 15th to October 12th.
New this year, the Market Kitchen Tent will often feature local chefs providing cooking demonstrations that highlight fresh produce procured at the market each morning. The demos will showcase easy, tasty, versatile ways to prepare produce and encourage market visitors to go buy the featured foods at the market, right there on the spot, while also giving chefs and local businesses an opportunity to get in front of and interact with the community.
“Funding from Wakefield Co-operative Bank enables us to educate consumers about local food choices and increase sales of produce from our farmers via high quality cooking demonstrations, informational materials, and recipes that we share on our Market Kitchen website,” said Wendy Dennis, outgoing Market Manager. “I’m sure incoming Market Manager, AnnMarie Gallivan, will have some great ideas for new programming as well, and that the Kitchen Tent and Farm/Food Education initiatives will become even more exciting and evolve over time.”
“We love the direction the Kitchen Tent is going this year, bringing in a variety of local businesses and natural, ‘real food’ experts to share their knowledge with the community,” said Jennie Terry, Marketing Manager at Wakefield Co-operative Bank. “Falling right in line with one of our main missions at the bank to support local businesses and shop small, we could not be happier to once again sponsor the Market Kitchen Tent.”
Recipes prepared by local chefs in the Kitchen Tent can be found on the Market Kitchen website.
